Overview
QOS Networks began as a network reseller and evolved into a leading managed network service provider for multi-location enterprise networks. M|C invested in QOS in late 2020, providing primary capital to invest in both an aggressive sales plan and improvements to QOS’ service delivery platform that optimized network performance.
Thesis
M|C developed a thesis grounded in three core beliefs. First, the combination of SD-WAN and high-speed cable broadband would become a lower-cost, better performing replacement for legacy MPLS networks. Second, existing MPLS providers would be slow to embrace these technologies due to cannibalization risk. Third, enterprises would increasingly value network optimization focused on improved cloud application performance.
Investment
M|C Partners invested in QOS in late 2020, providing primary capital to invest in an expanded leadership team, aggressive sales plan and improvements to QOS’ service delivery platform that optimized network performance.
Value Add
M|C helped recruit two new senior executives to build a more experienced team around Frank Cittadino, the CEO and founder of QOS. As Chief Revenue Officer, Chris Nein joined the team, bringing years of telecom sales leadership experience. Tyler Nau joined the team as Chief Operating Officer to further improve operations, leveraging his deep experience running Enterprise & Carrier services for large cable providers.
Outcome
Under M|C’s ownership and direction of founder and CEO Frank Cittadino, QOS more than doubled revenue within 12 months and transitioned to profitability, generating industry-leading gross margins and customer satisfaction. The QOS technology platform proved that active SD-WAN network management could improve the performance of sensitive cloud applications across thousands of branch locations. After 15 months, M|C sold QOS Networks to Zayo Group, a leading global fiber provider and former M|C portfolio company, generating an attractive return on capital for M|C and QOS’ founders.
